Brian Schottenheimer and the Dallas Cowboys ended a two-game drought in Week 7, improving to 3-4 on the 2026 NFL season after a 38-21 win over Tanner McKee and the Philadelphia Eagles on “Monday Night Football.” Now, the Cowboys will look to get back to .500 in Week 8, returning to Dallas to take on Trey McBride and the Arizona Cardinals.
With 13:34 remaining in the second quarter and the Cowboys holding a 10-7 lead, the Eagles faced a 3rd-and-7 situation at the Dallas 9-yard line. McKee attempted short pass to wide receiver Hollywood Brown, but it fell incomplete, leaving the Eagles with a 4th down situation.
However, Philadelphia lucked out on the play as Cowboys defensive tackle LT Overton was called for roughing the passer after accidentally smacking McKee across the facemask as he released the ball. This gave the Eagles a free first down before scoring a touchdown on the next play to take the lead.
With Overton’s roughing the passer penalty on McKee, the Cowboys defensive tackle could have a hefty fine coming his way. Each week, the NFL reviews every plays for potential fines, and while no players have been fined for roughing the passer through the first six weeks of the season, Overton could be charged up to $17,911 for his illegal hit, which can increase to $23,882 if he does it again this season.
Cowboys players have already receieved eight fines during the 2026 regular season, and seven overall for $91,137. In Week 6, guard Tyler Booker was charged $11,941 after a late hit against the Green Bay Packers. Overton, however, is yet to receive a fine during his young NFL career so far.
“LT Overton flagged for a roughing the passer penalty, which may have been dubious, and Dameon Pierce runs it in for a 5-yard TD on the next play,” ESPN’s Todd Archer wrote on X. “A 13-play TD drive by the Eagles after a 4-play TD drive.”
