Dallas Cowboys fans have been enjoying the life of having a trustworthy kicker over the last couple years. That rejoice has felt extra sweet given the team's struggles on special teams since the departure of long-time kicker Dan Bailey in 2017.
What's even more sweet was how they stumbled upon a former college soccer player who was pursuing software engineering and got a shot in the USFL, Brandon Aubrey.
And now ... how he's one of the best in the business.
Ever since signing "Butter" in 2023, the Cowboys have turned into one of the most premier special-teams units thanks to the kicker's marksmanship accuracy and video game-like statistics.
In fact, that comparison was proven in the latest Madden NFL 26 ratings drop before the video game's release on Aug. 14.
Aubrey earned high praise as the best kicker in the NFL with an 87 overall rating.

Many other high-profile Cowboys players have earned strong scores, but Aubrey's is the first to top his position's ranking in the game.
The St. Louis native has been nothing short of spectacular in his two seasons with "America's Team". He has earned two All-Pro and Pro Bowl nods, first as a rookie after setting the NFL record for consecutive field goals made to start a career with 35, then in his encore last year making 14 field goals from beyond 50 yards (another NFL record).
Aubrey is 65/76 (89 percent) on field goals in his career with a cartoonish 24/27 mark from over 50 yards out.
That power? Yeah, it's plenty shown in the Madden game. Aubrey's character has a 99-rated "Kick Power" attribute.
Aubrey's special-teams partners also got some Madden love and ranked high among the rest of the league. Trent Sieg (73 overall) was rated as the seventh-best long-snapper and Bryan Anger (81 overall) as the fifth-best punter.
Other notable Cowboys in the game include Micah Parsons (98 overall, second-best DE) and CeeDee Lamb (95 overall, fifth-best WR).
Aubrey is off training in Oxnard at his third training camp ahead of a new season, but he is noticeably still without a new contract. He is entering the final year of his three-year, $2.65 million deal, but understands that there are "no guarantees" (literally and figuratively) to a life in this business playing a low-paying position.
“Every year is a contract year when you’ve got no guarantees,” Aubrey said of his situation earlier this offseason. “I’ve been on two contracts years. I’m playing another contract year.”
When the time comes, Aubrey has done plenty to earn a new contract from Dallas in the range of what we expect to be $6.5 million per season - which would propel him to the top of the kicker market.
Just like his Madden rating.
