This is Brian Schottenheimer's first training camp as an NFL head coach and he already knows what he wants to get out of the next three weeks with the Dallas Cowboys.
Taking over the offensive side of the ball from Mike McCarthy, Schottenheimer already knows what he wants, both from an offensive and defensive perspective, in Oxnard.
But knowing what you want and actually getting it are two completely different things; however, Brian is determined to get everything he can out of his group.
“We want to have a very physical training camp,” Schottenheimer said. “There's limitations to what you can do, but we want to come out of this thing knowing the emphasis of winning the line of scrimmage.
"That's really important to us both offensively and defensively. How we want to play, be a physical style team both offensively and defensively. I would say that maximize our padded practices. Obviously got the work coming up against the Rams here in a couple weeks. That's the big emphasis right now.”
We know of Schottenheimer's desire to be a physical football team, and particularly on offense, with the coaching hires of Conor Riley and Klayton Adams, both of whom have pedigree in developing offensive lines and run games. Everything is pointing towards Dallas being a run-dominant team in 2025.
With the offensive line now having three first-round picks in Tyler Smith, Tyler Guyton, and Tyler Booker, the run game being revamped with Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, we can see the vision that Schottenheimer has for his offense.
And training camp is all about trying to bring that vision to life, and yes, there are limitations on physical practices, but you can bet your house that when it's time to go in the Oxnard sun, it'll all gas, no brakes.
