Cowboys' Brian Schottenheimer Reveals Brutal Nature Of Roster Cutdowns

Well, it's official, folks, the Dallas Cowboys roster has been trimmed from 90 players down to 53 in one fell swoop, with the NFL dreams of some players ending.

While there is still a possibility that the players Dallas let go will end up back on the practice squad should they not get claimed, guys like Deuce Vaughn, Jalen Brooks, and Traeshon Holden might get snapped up by another team.

But this part of the NFL isn't for the faint-hearted. Having to tell players why they aren't good enough to make the team, head coach Brian Schottenheimer hopes the players who were let go use this moment to better themselves.

“I want to say to all the guys that came in today, I just can't thank them enough for all their hard work. The mantra of compete every day. These guys have done that. They've bought in. It was hard to sit down in front of those guys and be honest and tell them the why, tell them the things that they did well, tell them the areas that they could improve.

"I think that's important because anytime you have those hard conversations, whether they're back or not back, they hopefully can use the thing that they're given the feedback about to improve themselves as a player. So, we tried to do that.”

So, we now get an inside look into the brutal nature of the NFL business, and perhaps this is why we look at preseason as the ultimate evaluation for players, because Vaughn and Brooks weren't just looking to impress the Cowboys coaching staff, but the staffs of 31 other teams.

Will they get picked up? Who knows, but with a mass exodus of players being cut from NFL teams, the next couple of days are going to be interesting to see who lands where.
