Cowboys Coach Responds To Rookie Jaydon Blue 'Lazy' Accusation

Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue has been flashing at training camp in Oxnard, making most forget about that "lazy" narrative that followed him.

After being a slow burn to start, Blue seems to have turned the corner, and now is taking first-team reps and is making the most of his chances, producing good moments both as a runner and a receiver.

But we always felt that the lazy narrative was a little unfair, given it was a young player still finding his way in the professional world, and what better way to try and understand Blue's journey than getting the word from someone who works with him daily?

Cowboys running back coach Derrick Foster has given his insight into how Jaydon has performed this offseason, along with that "lazy" narrative.

"He's growing as a player, and I think when you come into his league, there's a lot of things that you don't know that you figure out once you start getting your feet wet a little bit," Foster said. "He's maturing in that regard. In the spring, he was a little far behind than we wanted him to [be].

"Now that he's came in, he's shown a sign of professionalism, going about his business the right way, doing the small things, being detailed, and dialed. He's a very smart player. I don't think his work ethic is in question. I think he does a really good job in that regard. He just still has to grow, as most rookies do. I think that's where he is right now."

Such has been Blue's past week in Oxnard that there appears to be a very real chance the former Texas Longhorn could not only get on the field under Brian Schottenheimer, but he could see the field a lot.

Schotty stated that he could see Blue totaling 20-25 carries in a game, plus Foster stated his work between the tackles has stood out, given his smaller stature and slender build, the speedster is doing everything to show he can be counted on.

Granted, preseason games will tell us a lot more, but Blue has certainly squashed the narrative surrounding him, and has done it in a way that it might never be a reason for people to doubt him again.
