Cowboys' Dak Prescott Challenges CeeDee Lamb In Training Camp Footrace

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who turned 32 this week, used to have a serious weapon with his legs and the ability to pick up a handful of yards to keep the chains moving early in his career.

But over the past couple of seasons, with the injuries mounting, Prescott wasn't the runner we had known him to be. Then last year, Dak made a conscious effort to try and be a more effective runner and he tore part of his hamstring off the bone, which ended his season in Week 9. Go figure.

Now he's fully healthy at training camp, and he's pushing the limits. In fact, he's racing CeeDee Lamb.

But don't worry, there's a method to his madness.

“I had a head start, but yeah, I feel great,” Prescott said on his race with Lamb. “Just trying to make sure that I do push my limits in practice. I'm not necessarily running away from people as fast as I can, so, I've got to make sure that I do get some of those reps.

"That's just going to make sure and prepare me for the games. It can't be the first time that I'm running for my life when I get out there on Thursday against Philly. I feel great, that's me just pushing myself and preparing myself for game-like moments.”

So, Prescott is stretching out those hamstrings as he looks to be a more viable runner if the opportunity presents itself. We like that, and in truth, it's a smart business decision.

Don't worry, for those thinking Prescott will try and morph back into the dual-threat quarterback he once was, he isn't. More so, being a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes or Baker Mayfield, who, when push comes to shove, can pick up a handful of yards to keep the offense on the field.

We hear you cringe at that thought, but it appears that Prescott's days as a runner aren't over, and he's making sure his body is able to withstand it when he does click into gear.
