Dak Prescott is looking to help the Dallas Cowboys get back to the playoffs after missing out in 2024. They have a 1-2-1 record and have an upcoming matchup with the New York Jets on Sunday.
Prescott is coming off his best game of the year against the Green Bay Packers. In the 40-40 tie, he completed 31-of-40 passes for 319 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also had one rushing touchdown.
That performance caught the attention of many, including Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
“I don’t think he’s ever played any better than he’s playing now," Jones said, according to Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News.

“We’re a fighting bunch.”
He also said Dak Prescott is a reason.
“I don’t think he’s ever played any better than he’s playing now.”
Since joining the NFL in 2016, the quarterback has earned several impressive accolades. That includes three Pro Bowls and Offensive Rookie of the Year, while finishing runner-up for MVP in 2023.
For Jones to claim Prescott is playing his best right now is a huge vote of confidence. Especially considering the subtle dig he took at the veteran before the season, discussing whether EDGE Micah Parsons deserved to be paid before getting traded.
"I remember signing a player for the highest paid at the position in the league, and he got knocked out 2/3 of the year — Dak Prescott," Jones said in July. However, based on his recent praise, it's clear he's all in on Prescott.
Time will tell if Prescott continues to play at this high level. In the Cowboys' first three games, he wasn't all too impressive, completing 90-of-126 passes with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
As of now, ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) gives the Cowboys just a 4.9% chance of winning the NFC East and a 20.4% chance of making the playoffs.
With Jones clearly behind him, though, Prescott has shown the ability to be a star for the Cowboys and will need to sustain that level of play to make a playoff run.
They're scheduled to kick off against the Jets at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, airing on Fox.
