Cowboys’ Dak Prescott Sets Record Straight On CeeDee Lamb
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is not participating in voluntary workouts due to a contract standoff with the team, and quarterback Dak Prescott has his back.

When asked about Lamb’s absence this week, Prescott let it be known that Lamb has his full support.

“Yes, I mean, that’s my guy,” Prescott said, via Garrett Podell of CBS Sports. “Not many more people out there, more swaggier, cooler, better player, than that guy. So obviously you’re gonna miss him, miss having him around. But I’ve been in this situation, it’s business, business is business. He’s got my support and pretty much everybody in this locker room. I know locker room support and so it’s part of it. Hopefully, he’ll get all his and everything he deserves and is worth.”

Lamb is entering the final year of his deal and is set to earn $17.9 million in 2024. He has already seen top receivers like A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith of the Philadelphia Eagles and Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions land massive extensions this offseason, so he feels he should be next.

He should be, too.

Lamb is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he played every game and led the NFL with 135 receptions to go along with 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. He made his third straight Pro Bowl appearance and earned a First-Team All-Pro selection for his efforts.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was selected by the Cowboys with the 17th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Currently, Brown is the highest-paid wide out in football, earning $32 million annually. Lamb almost surely wants to break that mark.

One interesting thing to monitor is the Minnesota Vikings’ contract situation with Justin Jefferson. Jefferson is getting set to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. How much will a potential Jefferson deal affect negotiations between Dallas and Lamb?

If Dallas wants to avoid Lamb holding out for more money than Jefferson, it should probably get moving on a new deal with Lamb as soon as possible.

There has also been talk that Lamb could hold out of training camp in July if the two sides are unable to reach an agreement by then.

The Cowboys have incredibly limited depth behind Lamb at receiver, so Prescott obviously wants something to get done, as well (although Dak Prescott is angling for a fresh contract of his own).

We’ll see if Dallas can strike a pact with CeeDee Lamb in the coming weeks (or months).
