Meanwhile, fans reacted to Dak Prescott’s reflection on the frustrating 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Following the game, NFL insider Barry Gipson shared a clip of the Cowboys quarterback answering the question “What are you guys right now?” by Todd Archer of ESPN. The quarterback said:
“Three, four, and one. I mean, we’ve got to find consistency, honestly,” Prescott said. “The frustrating part about coming out here and we lost a game playing our best, you can somewhat live with that. But when we didn’t play anything close to that, I mean, think Schotty [Brian Schottenheimer] said it in there. If there’s somebody that feels like they played their best, come forward and say, and I don’t know if there’s any player in that locker room that’s going to feel that way.
“So, talking about identity trying to find it, we were far from anything that we’ve been especially on the offensive side of the ball today,” he added. “And so that’s what’s frustrating as anything is we didn’t even play to our identity. We didn’t play to our standard. And we’ve got to find a way to do that on the road.
In the comments, fans had mixed opinions:
“Sad since 96,” a fan wrote.
“WTH happened to our offense Dak,” another wrote.
“Trash,” another wrote.
“The cowboys need a real damn head coach the very undisciplined and it is defensive coordinator,” one wrote.
“Defensive coordinator needs to go. Along with the whole front 7,” another wrote.
“Brandon Aubrey was the most consistent player in this game,” one wrote.
The Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, is angry after the loss at the hands of the Broncos. His team’s staggering inconsistency is beyond his tolerance, and he is not “happy at all” with three ball games in eight games. Jones openly acknowledged that the Broncos physically beat his team. In particular, the Broncos’ front (offensive and defensive lines) was formidable, and they met the Cowboys head-on up front. Now the question is what Jones will do to get out of this predicament. The biggest reason for this loss was the defense completely failing at run-stopping.
Jones said he already knew that if they did not stop this, it was going to be a “long day” for them. This loss has forced Jones to make tough decisions, and he made it clear that he will look at every trade proposal. He will judge any proposition “on the merits of helping this team,” whether it is for next week or for the longer term.
He further said that his temperament will not be affected by today’s score. But will a new player fix everything? Jones believes that they are not just “one player away” on defense. Still, if they can bring in a better player and do not have to pay “too big a price” for it, then they will definitely pay attention to this. Expressing his deep displeasure, Jones openly said:
“Well, I am not happy at all with winning three ball games at all. And that starts really from what our goals are. Can we play better? Of course, we can play better”.
Along with this, the team is also waiting for injured player Trevon Diggs to heal, who is not yet in full shape. Until there is better execution on defense and run-stopping does not improve, Jones’s difficulties will persist.
