Cowboys Dallas Cuts Ex 1st-Round LB, Moves Lineman to Roster

The Dallas Cowboys have spent the last month and more searching for backup linebacker help. And they are also now searching for more offensive line insurance.

On Wednesday here inside The Star, they have at least for now given up on the former ... and are hopeful they've satisfied the latter.

The Cowboys have executed a pair of related roster moves as the 10-5 playoff-bound club preps for Saturday night’s home game against the 11-4 Detroit Lions. ... and prepares for beyond as well.

Tackle Matt Waletzko, who was a fifth-round pick last season, has been dealing with shoulder problems ever since he arrived here. the 6-7, 305-pounder was placed on injured reserve after the team's final cuts this summer and recently was deemed healthy enough to see his 21-day activation window open.

While Dallas is hopeful that left tackle Tyron Smith, battling a back problem, will be fine for Detroit, Waletzko can be a helper there.

Meanwhile, while there remains a void in the linebackers room ever since the season-ending neck injury sustained by Leighton Vander Esch, the unlucky guy who loses a roster spot in this shuffle is linebacker Rashaan Evans.

Evans, who recorded nine tackles in nine appearances for the Cowboys, was a 2018 Titans first-round pick. With him gone, the team will largely continue to rely on Damone Clark and Markquese Bell at linebacker.
