The Dallas Cowboys defense will look much different this season under new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. One player who is looking forward to getting going is linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
However, Overshown is going to have to wait before he can strap the pads on. He is still recovering from a knee injury he suffered last season. After missing his rookie season with a torn ACL suffered in training camp, Overshown tore his ACL, MCL and PCL in December and had them surgically repaired.
There is no timetable for Overshown's return to practice.
Overshown spoke to DallasCowboys.com and discussed how he is going to be used in the new system once he is pronounced fit. Eberflus wants him to be the quarterback of the defense and ultimately become an All-Pro.
"We're just making sure, first of all, that I'm ready when I get healthy," he said of his conversations with Eberflus. "That's been our main talking point, is staying in the building. Even if we're just doing cones, just lining up the cones and doing mental reps.
"But [his plan for me] is running his defense. I know where I wanna be and what's gonna make me take my game to the next level. We talked about things I can work on and things that can not only make me a Pro Bowler, but an All-Pro and a guy that's up for the Defensive Player of the Year award one day."
Overshown concluded his remarks by saying he is all ready for Eberflus
"… I'm all for it and I'm ready to run through a wall."
