Cowboys' DeMarvion Overshown Reveals Rookie Plan
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

How do you improve one of the NFL's best defenses? If you're the Dallas Cowboys, you draft linebacker DeMarvion Overshown out of Texas and let him go make plays.

While Overshown might not see the field as a starter early on in his professional career, the rookie linebacker is detailing where he'll line up in coordinator Dan Quinn's defense when he does.

"Any and everywhere," Overshown said

Three words ... all that's needed to describe what the rookie linebacker's role will be this season. Of course, one look at his stats from his time at Texas and it would be hard not to be excited about what he brings to the Cowboys defense.

In his final college season he recorded a career-high 96 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and four sacks. He paired his ability to come downhill and wreak havoc in the backfield with his coverage skills, tallying five passes defended.

Now take those numbers and slot them into a defense that already features Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Leighton Vander Esch and Trevon Diggs. ... And a defense that held teams to 20.1 points per game on 330.2 yards of total offense now has another talented piece for Quinn to develop ... and eventually use.

"There's a plan for me: just moving me around. It's kinda like what I was doing in college," Overshown said. "It's what you see right now with the Dallas defense — moving a lot of players around."

Added the enthusiastic kid from tiny Arp, Texas: "I know Coach Quinn has a plan for me. I'm just excited to work, whatever they need me to do, I'm gonna do it."

Parsons (often at edge), Vander Esch and Damone Clark are way ahead of the rookie right now. But whether on defense or, more likely, on special teams, Overshown obviously intends to make his presence felt during his rookie season. ... anywhere and everywhere.
