The Dallas Cowboys secondary has came down with the injury bug over the last few seasons. Former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs, one of the leaders of the bunch, has missed the most time as of late.
Ever since his league-leading 11-interception season in 2021 - and his five-year, $97 million contract - Diggs has fallen victim to two season-ending knee injuries over the last two seasons.
In 2023, Diggs tore the ACL in his left knee just two games into the season. Then he returned in 2024 only to have cartilage issues in the same knee and need surgery again in January 2025.
Initial reports were that Diggs would be closer to making a return near the midway point of the this season, but his latest workout video shows a major milestone in his effort to return to the field sooner.

Working out with Alkeme Sports, Diggs is seen moving very well laterally - which is a major worry in knee recovery, ACL in particular. The video also seems to claim that this is Diggs' "first day moving", already back into fundamental cornerback movements.
There have been multiple viral weight lifting videos this offseason of Diggs' progression, which has created anticipation from fans who are hopeful for a quick return.
We suggest he take his time given the compounding issues, but it's a positive that Diggs appears to be taking criticism about his first rehab to heart.
"I have a lot of hope that his actual rehab and experience from the time before is really helping him out. I think it is," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said this offseason.
That's a subtle poke that confirms the long-standing rumor that Dallas was displeased with Diggs' commitment to rehab the last time around.
Jerry and the Cowboys say they understand the timeline for Diggs' current recovery, but it's important to consider a cautious approach.
“We have a good idea [of a return date]," Jones said. "He’s working hard. That’s very important because if he will be very good and diligent in his rehab process, then he’ll get back quicker. And when he does get back, he’ll be sounder. If he has not worked as hard, he is more subject to injury. He’s learned that one time."
Quicker? I don't know if we want to rush him back. Sounder? That's more like it.
Smarter? We'd choose that most of all.
Diggs, like the rest of Cowboys Nation, should be wary of the rest of Dallas' current secondary. It wasn't just Trevon who went down last season.
Fellow stud cornerback DaRon Bland missed time with a foot issue last season, and Josh Butler is recovering from a torn ACL after a solid 2024 season. The Cowboys' third-round pick in this spring's NFL Draft Shavon Revel Jr. is also rehabbing an ACL tear of his own as he joins the group.
The Cowboys' defensive back room will be spending a lot of time in the training room this summer with Trevon Diggs, like he does on the field, leading the way.
