FRISCO - Thankfully, it only took an hour.
ESPN's Adam Schefter for some inexplicable reason on Friday before Round 2 of the NFL Draft went national with an "It could happen'' take that ...
Well, to put it nicely, was not going to happen.
And yet ... there he was, telling Dallas Cowboys fans that they could wind up drafting Deion Sanders' son.
The first-round facts?
The New York Giants didn't want Colorado QB at No. 3. The QB-needy Saints and Steelers passed on him, too.
All 32 teams did that in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday.
Now it's Friday. The second-round facts?
More embarrassment for the waiting Sanders family ... and we hope, some ESPN embarrassment for click-baiting Cowboys Nation down an awful rabbit hole.
Yes, the Cowboys are set with Dak Prescott and his $240 million contract at quarterback. But he’ll be 32 when the season starts, and three of the last five seasons he has missed significant time with injuries.
They do have Joe Milton and Will Grier, but ...
Enter Schefter.
"I think we’re at the point where it might be a team that drafts Shedeur that we haven’t even connected him to,'' the ESPN "insider'' said on Friday before Day 2 of the draft. "Somebody that would be an outlying quarterback team.''
Hmmm. Wonder where this is going ...
“Again, this is not any evidence or any reporting,'' he continued. "But I’m just giving you a team like the Seattle Seahawks, the Arizona Cardinals, the Dallas Cowboys. A team that we’ve never linked to Shedeur could all of a sudden step into the mix because they have a high grade on him, their pick comes up tonight and even though they don’t have a need, he would be the highest rated player on their board.
"That could happen this evening.”
Could it? Sure.
Would it? Nah.
Did it? Nope.
Shedeur in fact has been passed on so many times already by the QB-needy Cleveland Browns that one assumes this could be a 70-round draft and some teams won't take him.
The tumult that would've been caused by Shedeur landing with the Cowboys in Round 2? A massive circus.
The attention for Jerry Jones' team? Ah, instead the Cowboys drafted guard Tyler Booker in Round 1 and in Round 2 just took Boston College pass-rush sensation Donovan Ezeiruaku.
Come inside for more Cowboys!
