The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to pick up their first win on opening night against the Dallas Cowboys in Philadelphia, but the game was halted due to a weather delay.
Philadelphia and Dallas were going back and forth with no punts through about two and a half quarters of play. After Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was rejected for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Dallas drove right down the field for a touchdown.
The Eagles responded with a score of their own. It became a back and forth game until halftime where Philly held a 21-20 lead. They started the third quarter with a field goal to be up by four points.
Cowboys running back Miles Sanders would fumble on the next offensive drive that was recovered by the Eagles. That would be the last play until the weather delay came into place.
A thunder strike was seen near the area of Lincoln Financial Field, which resulted in the players being taken off the field. The stadium made the announcement to the fans that the Philadelphia area was under a severe thunderstorm warning and asked them to take shelter out of the seats.
According to NBC's Mike Tirico, he stated on the broadcast that the weather was expected to be in the area until 11:15 pm EST. After that point, if they are cleared to return to the field, it would be another 12 minutes of warmups before the game would resume. In total, it would be almost an hour of weather delay for the game.
The hope is they can get back on the field soon when it is safe. We will have more updates as they come in.
