The Dallas Cowboys are making a hire for their coaching staff but this time, they're changing it up. In this occasion, they're adding to the offensive side of the ball after Mike Zimmer's defensive staff stole the spotlight in the aftermath of Dan Quinn's departure.
Per ESPN's Todd Archer, the Cowboys have hired former Boston College offensive coordinator Steve Shimko as an offensive assistant only weeks removed from the start of free agency.
Shimko spent three years in Boston College before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023, with experience coaching quarterbacks and tight end. Before that, he got NFL experience with the Seattle Seahawks in 2018 and 2019.
Back then, Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer coached the Seahawks offense. Shimko will replace Will Harriger on the staff after the latter landed a quarterbacks coaching gig with the Carolina Panthers. While offensive analyst is often an overlooked position, every position matters in an NFL staff.
Shimko's offense in Boston College averaged 380.8 yards per game (8th in the ACC) while scoring 24.8 points per game (10th).
