Cowboys five takeaways against Colts highlights defense's championship quality

The Cowboys created five turnovers and overpowered the Colts in a 54-19 victory, proving their defense is a game-changing factor.

Although the final score was a blowout, the game was close, 21-19, headed into the fourth quarter. However, Dallas forced four of their five turnovers in the fourth quarter, leading to a 33-point surge, the most fourth-quarter points in franchise history, per NBC Sports.

The ability to create turnovers is a key to Dallas' defensive success. Through 12 games, it forced 21, tied for second in the league.

The unique component strengthens the Cowboys' (9-3) championship chances. Per ESPN, four of the last five Super Bowl champions had a defense that ranked in the league's top 10 for creating turnovers.

Championship teams pride themselves on the ability to force turnovers since games can come down to these critical plays, and they create a swing in momentum.

While it might not matter as much in a blowout against a struggling Colts (4-8-1) team, there will be a game where the Cowboys might need their defense to stop an opponent in a key moment.

The performance tonight shows they can trust their defense when it matters because it can force takeaways and lead the charge, running away with victory.
