Dallas Cowboys fans were ecstatic when they got word of a move that satisfied the organization's top mission of the offseason.
With a trade for George Pickens of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas acquired an "explosive No. 2 option" wide receiver that immediately redefines the Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb passing attack. It creates as exciting a receiver duo as the fan base has seen in recent years.
The official NFL schedule release on Wednesday grew fans' excitement even more as they heard of the first time they can see Pickens on the field in a Cowboys uniform.
However, nobody knows what jersey number he'll play in yet.
Lucky for Cowboys fans wanting to be immediate supporters, they will still be able to order Pickens jerseys ... but may have to wait a second until they can arrive to their doorstep.
According to The Athletic, George Pickens jerseys have already gone on sale on the team website, despite no jersey number being assigned. Once he gets his official number with the Cowboys, all jersey orders will be made to order and shipped shortly after.
It is unclear when that jersey assignment will come, but many expect it to be prior to mandatory OTAs and training camp that are just under two months away.
The Cowboys rookie signees, either from the NFL Draft or un-drafted contracts, received their number assignments pretty soon after the Draft because they were to report to minicamp and begin practice.
We are in a relaxing phase of the offseason for many returners and veterans, so Pickens has not been crucially needed on the practice field quite yet, in turn telling us the Cowboys are not in a hurry to get his number confirmed.
For the last three years with the Steelers, Pickens wore No. 14, but that number is already occupied by safety Markquese Bell in Dallas. Pickens can't pivot to his college number either as the No. 1 jersey he wore with the Georgia Bulldogs is currently being worn by fellow Cowboys receiver Jalen Tolbert.
Whatever number Pickens wears, Cowboys fans can be confident that he will be an exciting pairing with Lamb and the Dallas offense in 2025.
Pickens will display his new threads with the Cowboys in Philadelphia on Sept. 4 as the Cowboys kickoff the NFL season against the reigning champion Eagles on Thursday Night Football.
