Cowboys In NFL Playoffs: Who'll Be Dallas' 1st-Round Opponent?
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

There is one uncomplicated piece to all of this as the Dallas Cowboys gear up for the NFL Playoffs and for a particular Round 1 foe: First, simply beat the Commanders in Washington this Sunday ... win the NFC East and the No. 2 seed in the postseason ... and let the rest of the scramblers fall into their places.

And who are those scramblers? Among the issues discussed in the Fish Report and the Fish Podcast, the two seed will play the seventh seed at AT&T Stadium ...

And there are (we think!) five realistic ways that could go. ... which we'll put in order of likelihood (we think!) ...

Rams at Cowboys. If the Packers beat the Bears in Week 18 and the Rams lose to the 49ers.

Packers at Cowboys - If the Packers beat the Bears in Week 18 and the Rams beat the Niners.

Seahawks at Cowboys - If the Seahawks beat the Cardinals and the Packers lose to the Bears.

Saints at Cowboys. If the Saints beat the Falcons and the Buccaneers beat the Panthers and the Seahawks and Packers both lose.

Vikings at Cowboys. If the Vikings beat the Lions and the Seahawks and Packers both lose and the Falcons beat the Saints. (Also, if the Saints beat the Falcons and the Bucs lose to the Panthers and the Vikings winning plus the Packers and Seahawks losing.)

For what it's worth? The Cowboys this year beat the Rams 43-20 and beat the Seahawks 41-35. And for what it's worth, too ... Dallas has won the last 16 at AT&T Stadium and, by winning Sunday, would be slated to play both of its first two playoff games at home ... and would therefore be favored to advance to the NFC Championship Game - at San Francisco.
