Cowboys, Jerry Jones Linked to Running Back Who Could Change Offense

The Dallas Cowboys have gone through a lot of disappointment in recent years. Last season, the team missed the playoffs and dealt with a lot of injury issues. Jerry Jones chose to take action during the 2025 NFL offseason.

Jones made the decision to move on from former head coach Mike McCarthy. To replace him, the Cowboys brought in a first-time head coach. Brian Schottenheimer has taken over in Dallas.

While Dak Prescott has clearly been chosen as the long-term franchise quarterback, the Cowboys still have question marks alongside him in the backfield.

During the offseason, Dallas went out and brought in both Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. Both players could play a good role, but they aren't likely to be the team's long-term running back option.

With that in mind, the Cowboys have been linked to a running back who could change the offense for the team moving forward.

Pro Football Sports Network analyst Brentley Weissman has predicted that Dallas will pursue Notre Dame standout running back Jeremiyah Love.

"This player-team pairing will continue to be in my mock drafts. The Cowboys’ current running back group is arguably the weakest in the NFL. Historically, the team performs best when they establish a strong run game and physical presence, enabling Dak Prescott to succeed with play-action," Weissman wrote.

"Jeremiyah Love is by far the top running back in his class, and he is projected to be a Heisman finalist this fall after another impressive season," he wrote. "His dynamic running style is characterized by a potent combination of power, vision, and breakaway speed."

In 2024 with Notre Dame, Love was a key part of the run to the national championship game. Unfortunately, the Fighting Irish came up short against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Love carried the football 163 times for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 6.9 yards per carry. He also caught 28 passes for 237 yards and two more touchdowns.

No one can predict the future, but Love would make a lot of sense for the Cowboys. If he is available when Jones and company feel comfortable addressing the running back position in the 2026 NFL draft, it would not be shocking to see him land in Dallas.
