Cowboys Legend DeMarcus Ware Reveals Dallas Coach Plan

FRISCO - Whenever we're asked about the idea of Dallas Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware someday joining the "America's Team'' coaching staff, we offer a pat answer: D-Ware's got a good life. Why mess it up by joining the grind?

But maybe because he simply wants to help, or maybe because he's really got the itch, the Hall of Famer insists he wants in ...

Especially if Jason Witten is going to be in, too.

This week, Cowboys legend Ware joined "The Rich Eisen Show" and was peppered with questions about the vacant coaching position here inside The Star.

Ware started by doing what he's done frequently: He touted old teammate Witten as the right guy for the top job.

"I think that Jason Witten can be the coach for the Dallas Cowboys," Ware said. "Think about a Dan Campbell. what he did for the Detroit Lions. I think that Jason Witten can do the same things for the Dallas Cowboys."

While the Joneses are presently hyper-focused on Brian Schottenheimer being very much involved in the future of this staff in a post-Mike McCarthy time, it is also known that Witten - the legendary tight end, successful high school coach and Jones family favorite - is a strong candidate to joint the future staff in some capacity.

And would Ware like to join him?

"If I had an opportunity to coach the linebackers," Ware said. "To go in there and do it the right way. I think that I can make a huge impact with those guys in some type of capacity. ... No doubt, I would really consider that."

Ware starred for the Cowboys from 2005 to 2013 and set team records for most career sacks (117), most forced fumbles (32) and most tackles for loss (145). He later won a Super Bowl as a member of the Broncos but now makes his home here.

The Cowboys have announced interviews of four different head-coaching candidates so far, including their own offensive coordinator Schottenheimer, Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier, Eagles coordinator Kellen Moore and former Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

There is also buzz about other names like Pete Carroll, Rich Bisaccia and Deion Sanders.

In the end, Witten is likely to be part of this picture. And Ware sounds pretty convincing in saying he wants in as well.
