Cowboys Legends Travis Frederick, Zack Martin Launch New Show
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys fans are getting a new weekly look at their team from former center Travis Frederick and guard Zack Martin, who spent years anchoring the Cowboys’ offensive line from 2014 to 2018.

Unfortunately, in 2019, Frederick sat out with Barré syndrome before retiring, according to ESPN.

It was recently announced that two former Cowboys will be launching “TRENCHTOWN” a new show featured on the Haymaker Network that will stream every Tuesday during the Cowboys Season on the network’s new HaymakerCowboys YouTube channel.

Haymaker’s Co-Founder Ben Rogers recently shared with Lindy’s Sports that the project came together almost by accident, and that the pairing of two longtime friends is exactly what makes it work.

A Chance Meeting on Draft Night

Rogers and his Haymaker Co-Founder Jeff ‘Skin’ Wade had already been kicking around the idea of a player hosting podcast, and Frederick sat at the top of their wish list.

Rogers had done a weekly radio segment with Frederick called The Travis Frederick Show, according CBS News.com.  The two collaborated for most of the center’s career and consider him one of the sharpest, funniest interviews in sports.

The opportunity arrived one night of the NFL Draft, when both former linemen happened to be at Rollertown Beerworks in Frisco, Texas. Rogers approached them, half-worried that he was interrupting their conversation to pitch a podcast idea.

It turned out, according to Rogers, that Martin was already in the middle of trying to convince Frederick to start one. So, the timing couldn’t have been better.

Why Two Linemen Make Sense

Sports media tends to revolve around quarterbacks and skilled position stars, but Rogers insists that the choice had little do with the position they played. What sold him was who they are: accomplished, credible voices, who carry no big egos, and come across as approachable and relatable.

Rogers noted that Martin never did as much media as his former teammate during his playing days but described him as equally smart and funny.

Combine that with deep football knowledge, quick wit, and a genuine best friend dynamic, and Rogers felt all the ingredients were already in place.

Chemistry Over Chalkboards

Don’t expect a film-room lecture on pass-protection footwork. Per Roger, the show is built around Cowboys conversation that any fan can follow, with Frederick and Martin bringing an insider’s perspective on the quarterback, the coaching staff and the organization they know very well.

Because Haymaker owns the show outright, there’s no corporate template to follow. Roger shared the hosts will have room to shape it however they like, and he expects the format to evolve over time. Their chemistry, he said, is the secret sauce.

He was also emphatic that TRENCHTOWN belongs to Frederick and Martin. Rogers also details his own role as setting them up so they can take over and says success in year one will be measured less by numbers than by whether the two are enjoying themselves and want to keep things going.
