The Dallas Cowboys faced the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day. The game took place at Northwest Stadium on Thursday, Dec. 25. Dallas entered the matchup on a three-game losing streak. The season has been difficult for the Cowboys.

During the game, Dallas shared a notable update involving Dak Prescott. The Cowboys’ public relations team posted the announcement on X. It followed a long touchdown play early in the game. KaVontae Turpin caught an 86-yard touchdown pass, Dallas’ longest play this season. It was also the longest since a 92-yard touchdown by CeeDee Lamb in 2023.

The touchdown also carried personal meaning for Prescott. The pass gave him 30 touchdowns in the 2025 season, his fourth season reaching that number.

"Dak Prescott ( @dak ) reached 30 touchdown passes in 2025 on this play. It is his fourth season with at least 30 passing touchdowns, tied with Tony Romo for the most such seasons in franchise history." Cowboys PR wrote.

Prescott entered the game with strong numbers. He had 4,175 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. His completion rate stood at 68.5 percent. He also posted a 73.1 QBR with 10 interceptions. His late-season performances included several 300-yard games.

Dallas entered the game with a 6-8-1 record and an offense ranked first in passing yards. Their scoring ranked fifth league-wide, but defensive struggles hurt the team all season. They have allowed over 30 points per game.

The Cowboys will miss the playoffs despite the outcome of their last two games. Speaking about missing the playoffs on Tuesday, Prescott said,

"Each year has its own troubles. Each year has its own highs, lows, ebbs, and flows, and everything within it. The importance is controlling what you can ... once again, I'm going to do my damnedest and make sure that I'm influencing and encouraging everybody else around me, not just the players, to do the same."

Prescott has earned his fourth Pro Bowl selection this season.

Note: After the third quarter, the Cowboys were leading 27-20 against the Commanders, with 74% win probability.
