Cowboys Make Decision on Daniel Jones Amid Speculation: Report

On Friday morning the New York Giants made the stunning announcement that the team released former No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones as part of a "mutual" agreement between he and the team after his benching earlier in the week.

"Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him. We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team," Giants owner John Mara said in a statement.

"Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that. We are all disappointed in how things have worked out," the statement continued. "We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future."

Not long after the move was made pretty much everyone on social media floated the same idea: Daniel Jones to the Dallas Cowboys. It would make for an interesting Thanksgiving Day game between the Giants and Cowboys, but the latter doesn't seem too interested.

According to a report from NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Cowboys have no desire to go after Jones - at least not right now.

"For those asking, I’m told the #Cowboys are not currently pursuing QB Daniel Jones," Anderson said on social media this afternoon.

Jones signed a four-year, $160 million contract after he finished the 2022 NFL season with 3,205 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and just five interceptions while adding another 708 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. He finished his Giants career with 14,582 passing yards with 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions while adding another 2,179 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.

Apparently the Cowboys aren't interested in any of those stats and will roll with quarterback Cooper Rush again this weekend. Head coach Mike McCarthy announced Rush as the starter, but admitted Trey Lance will see playing time against the Washington Commanders.

Fans hoping for a Daniel Jones-Cowboys union might have to hope a little harder.
