On Sunday afternoon the Dallas Cowboys took the field without much to play for other than pride.

Pride and NFL history, that is. Dallas entered Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders without the opportunity to play for a playoff spot. However, the team could help knock the Commanders down from the No. 6 seed to the No. 7 seed with a win and win by the Green Bay Packers against the Chicago Bears.

As it stands now, the Bears hold a 21-13 lead over the Packers in the fourth quarter while the Cowboys trailed 16-12 in the fourth quarter. Dallas is only in the game thanks to the leg of kicker Brandon Aubrey, who joined NFL history on Sunday afternoon.

With four field goals on the day, Aubrey joined an illustrious list of four other kickers who have made 40-plus field goals in a season.

"With four field goals today, Brandon Aubrey became the fifth kicker in NFL history to achieve 40-plus field goals in a single season (David Akers - 2011, 44; Chris Boswell - 2024, 41; Daniel Carlson - 2021, 40; Neil Rackers - 2005, 40)," the team said in a message on Sunday.

It hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows for Aubrey, though. Earlier in the game he drilled a Cowboys cheerleader with an errant kickoff.

If Dallas wants to win Sunday's game against Washington it will need more than just another field goal as the team currently trails by four points with 10 minutes left to play.
