The Dallas Cowboys haven't made a huge splash this week but they did just re-sign KaVontae Turpin to a historic contract.
Turpin, 28, joined the Cowboys during the 2022 season. As a rookie in the NFL, he earned All-Pro honors and made the Pro Bowl due to his contributions as a kick returner. The speedster from TCU has only gotten better since then.
In 2024, Turpin returned one punt and one kickoff for touchdowns. He also made an impact as a wide receiver, hauling in 31 passes for 420 yards and three touchdowns.
It was already reported this offseason that Dallas would place the second-round tender on Turpin. That being said, the front office wasted no time signing the All-Pro returner to a long-term contract.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys have signed Turpin to a three-year, $18 million deal. That'll make him the highest-paid special teams player in NFL history.
"The Cowboys are finalizing a three-year, $18 million deal with WR/RS KaVontae Turpin, making him the NFL’s highest-paid special teamer, sources tell me and @SlaterNFL. Darren Jones (MaVen Sports) and Deryk Gilmore (Day 1 Sports and Entertainment) did the deal," Pelissero wrote on X.
The Cowboys have prioritized their own free agents this offseason. Prior to getting a deal done with Turpin, they signed defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa to a four-year, $80 million contract.
Dallas has also signed defensive lineman Solomon Thomas and running back Javonte Williams. The latter agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $3.5 million.
We'll see if the Cowboys make a few more verbal agreements before the league year officially begins on Wednesday afternoon.
