Trevon Diggs watched as Brian Schottenheimer and the Dallas Cowboys delivered arguably their best defensive performance of the 2025 NFL season, improving to 3-3-1 with a 44-22 Week 7 win over Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders. The Cowboys tormented both Daniels and Marcus Mariota, racking up four sacks and six quarterback hits, capped by a 68-yard interception return for a touchdown by DaRon Bland.

Diggs has been one of Dallas’ top defenders since 2020, earning two Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro honor. However, the former Alabama standout missed the Week 7 win after suffering a concussion in a home accident, suddenly landing on the injury report Friday. And Diggs also remained sidelined through Wednesday’s practice while still in concussion protocol, prompting the Cowboys to add another cornerback.

Zion Childress went undrafted in 2025 after three seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats before being signed by the Cowboys. He earned a spot on their practice squad to start the season and was elevated for two games, recording one tackle. After Week 3, he joined the Houston Texans’ 53-man roster but didn’t appear in a game before being waived on Monday.

On Tuesday, with Diggs still recovering from his concussion and wide receiver Jalen Brooks placed on the practice squad/injured list, the Cowboys re-signed Childress to their practice squad, providing additional depth in Diggs’ absence.

"Additional #Cowboys transaction: CB Zion Childress, who signed as a UDFA with the Cowboys following the 2025 NFL Draft and made the initial 53-man roster, has re-joined Dallas' practice squad," Cowboys staff writer Tommy Yarrish wrote on X. "WR Jalen Brooks was placed on the practice squad/injured list, which opened the spot."

Along with Childress, the Cowboys also activated the 21-day practice windows for center Cooper Beebe, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and cornerback Shavon Revel Jr., giving the team key reinforcements at the right time.

Up next for the Cowboys, a Week 8 matchup with Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
