Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Defends Browns’ Myles Garrett In DPOY Debate
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett has won the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award, but some feel the honor should have gone to Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt.

Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons thinks that take is nonsense.

While fans were arguing on social media that Watt was more deserving of the award than Garrett due to his superior numbers, Parsons passionately fired back.

“Horrible take!! Myles was the better player!! Reality of the situation !” Parsons posted on X. “Myles Faced way more double teams and affect on qbs! Fans please stop looking at stats and look at film please!!”

Parsons has a point.

Many fans are trained to simply look at box scores when evaluating players, but the fact of the matter is that it runs much deeper than that.

Garrett racked up 42 tackles, 14 sacks, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery this season, and that was in spite of attracting massive attention from opposing offenses.

People will look at the stretch between Weeks 11 and 15 where Garrett did not log a single sack, but that was because he was being double teamed and sometimes held, which Garrett made known.

That’s not to take anything away from Watt. He was brilliant this season, as he led the league with 19 sacks to go along with 68 tackles, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, eight passes defended and a defensive touchdown. He finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.

But most would probably agree that Garrett was the more dominant force in the trenches.

Parsons, meanwhile, finished third in the voting after registering 64 tackles, 14 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 2023.

No matter what the topic is, you can always count on Micah Parsons weighing in on the matter.
