Cowboys Offense Poised to Create 'Disease'

We know that the Dallas Cowboys, under new head coach/offensive play-caller Brian Schottenheimer want to run the football as the first port of call.

With the coaching hires of Klayton Adams and Conor Riley, who have skins on the wall in developing good run games, the Cowboys then selected mentality monster Tyler Booker in the first round of the NFL Draft to slide into Zack Martin's right guard spot.

With Tyler Guyton, Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe, Booker, and Terence Steele, the Cowboys' new "Wall" looks good, on paper at least.

And for offensive coordinator Adams, his unit will inflict some pain on every defense they face in 2025.

“Creating explosives in the run game is a recipe for creating explosives in the pass game,” Adams said. “It's a lot easier to block these D linemen when they don't know it's a pass. When somebody can impose their will on you in the run game, it's a disease for the entire team, and it affects everybody in a negative way. Conversely, it affects your team in a positive way.

"I think it's a recipe for disaster if you can't run it, and they can run it on you.”

Adams's comment suggests that the Cowboys will enforce their will on opponents, with the offensive line opening up running lanes for Jaydon Blue, Miles Sanders, Javonte Williams, and Phil Mafah to run through.

They might be three or four-yard gains with Williams or Sanders, but then with Blue, he might rip off a 30-yard gain and flip the field. That can then create easy passing opportunities for Dak Prescott and Co., with the defense now not sure what is coming next.

We saw last season how a consistent run game can render a defensive line useless if they can't stop the run, and the Cowboys under Mike Zimmer felt that more than most.

But the tide is turning, and the Cowboys, who had a poor run game last season, seem determined to make it their one wood in 2025.

And by spreading the "negative disease" of giving up and knowing you can't stop them, maybe, just maybe, this new-look Cowboys offense can return to its physical ways of the past.

Well, that's the plan, anyway.
