The Dallas Cowboys are officially getting back starting center Cooper Beebe ahead of their Monday night matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, per the team.
Beebe is being activated from Injured Reserve, and he'll be back in the lineup for the first time since Week 2. Though the Cowboys have gotten solid play from backup center Brock Hoffman, Beebe elevates the physicality of the team's run game, which has dropped off in general efficiency over the last three weeks. With Beebe's return, Dallas is getting its original offensive line combination for the first time since Week 2.
Beebe's activation was announced alongside other roster moves, one of which includes a surprising Injured Reserve addition.
Sanborn's future was as blurry as it gets. He went from being the starting middle linebacker to switching positions with Kenneth Murray. Then, after dealing with a concussion, Sanborn didn't return as a starter. Even still, with the rest of the Cowboys LB room struggling — at times, worse than he was — it seemed like he had a chance at an increased role. That's not happening.
Now, Sanborn is being placed on IR with a groin injury that kept him out of Week 8. He is set to miss a minimum of four games, starting with Monday's matchup.
It's a tough roster decision to make, considering how bad the Cowboys have been at linebacker. The decision suggests Kenneth Murray will remain the unit leader tonight despite playing poorly so far this season. Rookie Shemar James is coming off his worst game yet. We'll see if it's just them tonight or if we see some Marist Liufau or Damone Clark in the mix.
Last week, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters he wasn't pleased with Blue's consistency during the loss to the Denver Broncos. He suggested Malik Davis was in a position to compete with Blue for RB snaps.
Now, Davis is being promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, which confirms our previous suspicions from last week. Davis had run out of practice squad elevations, as the NFL allows two per player per season. For a competition to happen, Davis needed to be elevated. Now he is.
It will be worthwhile monitoring how the snaps are distributed at RB. Javonte Williams is likely to continue receiving the lion's share, but who is RB2 in Week 9? The rookie or the long-time practice squad contributor?
The Cowboys are elevating undrafted rookie CB Zion Childress and TE Princeton Fant for Monday's game. Dallas re-signed Childress to its practice squad after he spent time with the Houston Texans.
