Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys officially kicked off their 2025 training camp on Monday, heading to Oxnard, California, ahead of the new NFL season.
All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons was on the field for the first day of practice, even as his contract situation remains unresolved. Heading into his fifth year, Parsons has become one of the top defenders in the league, making three All-Pro teams.
But, when it comes to negotiations, though, Jones is a tough nut to crack. Just ask CeeDee Lamb and Ezekiel Elliott, both of whom held out of past training camps during contract disputes.
And it appears Parsons and Jones haven't made much progress. However, the longtime owner and general manager may want to learn the name of the player he is negotiating with, calling his superstar "Michael Parson."
"Of all the players I've ever negotiated with, Michael Parson is as savvy and knowledgeable and understanding of his financial business relative to football as any player I've ever been around," Jones said.
Now I understand why the Cowboys haven’t been able to get a contract done with Micah Parsons.

Although Jones likely meant well, his mispronunciation didn’t go unnoticed. Still, that hasn’t stopped Parsons from wanting to remain with the Cowboys, as he also opened up about the ongoing contract negotiations.
"There's not really much movement, man," Parsons commented on Tuesday. "I wanna be here. I’ve always said I wanna be here, but at the end of the day, they sign the checks like always. Let’s see if they want me to be here at the end of the day."
Parsons also noted that his presence at training camp hasn’t moved contract negotiations forward, saying he’s there for his teammates and himself.
The Cowboys will open up the 2025 regular season on Sept. 4, facing the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL opener.
