We are now into the minicamp portion of the offseason, and Dallas Cowboys' pass-rushing linebacker Micah Parsons is still trying to get his new contract.
Thought to be roughly $40 million APY and across five years, it does feel like a matter of when, not if, Micah gets his deal with the Cowboys, surely not going to play hard ball with a player who some might deem their biggest asset.
But there are a couple of checkpoints to this deal. First was OTAs, which Micah was, as head coach Brian Schottenheimer said, "in and out," and then minicamp, at which Parsons was in attendance at The Star but didn't participate in any drills.
However, the biggest checkpoint and deadline, if you will, is training camp.
We saw CeeDee Lamb hold out for nearly all of camp last season, and fans are worried that Micah might do the same.
"Yeah, I'll still be in Oxnard," Parsons said. "Already got my house, I already got my house, it's already said and done, so I'll be in Oxnard. Me, my kids, my family, so we'll be there."
But will Micah be on the grass practicing?
"Yeah, I'll be out there," he added.
So that settles it.
With or without a contract, the Lionbacker will be on the field in the Oxnard sun. Cue the collective sigh of relief of sorts from Cowboys Nation.
Now, we don't know how involved Parsons will be without a deal in place, but after stating that it is all basically up to Jerry Jones to make the call to his agent to thrash out the deal, it is now a waiting game that, for most, has already gone on too long.
"Deadlines make deals," Jerry once said to our own Mike Fisher, and the biggest deadline of them all is fast approaching.
Micah wants a deal done before he steps onto the field in Oxnard, and there's only one person who can make sure it happens.
