Cowboys pull off buzzer-beater activation ahead of Week 14
Mandatory Credit: Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys beat the buzzer by activating tight end Peyton Hendershot on the very last day of his 21-day practice window to return from Injured Reserve.

The Cowboys had not pulled the trigger on Hendershot's return for any of the last couple of games even though he was eligible but had they not activated him on Wednesday, his 2023 season would've been over per NFL rules.

Instead, Hendershot is set to return in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles after being placed on IR in Week 6.

Hendershot could fight for a role on offense, be it for TE3 or even TE2, even though Luke Schoonmaker is slowly cementing himself there. At the very least, expect the second-year player to contribute on special teams, something he did a lot of since his rookie season.

That being said, Hendershot's activation resulted in Sean McKeon being placed on Injured Reserve with an ankle injury. He could still technically return this season but would be unlikely to do it barring any injury at the position.

Hendershot was yet again a full participant in practice. Rico Dowdle was listed as "limited" as he continues to fight an ankle injury.

Six Cowboys starters appeared on the report due to rest days, something not new for Mike McCarthy's coaching staff. As for McCarthy, he was a no show as he received surgery after being diagnosed with acute appendicitis.
