It appears that four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen might not finish a whole season as a member of the Dallas Cowboys after playing the previous 10 campaigns with the Minnesota Vikings.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t Nick Shook) reported on Monday that Dallas has let teams around the league know that Griffen is available ahead of the Nov. 3 trade deadline. Per Rapoport, a buyer would have to pay approximately half of Griffen's $6 million salary.
Griffen, who signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys in August, has tallied 2.5 sacks, 20 tackles and a forced fumble over the first seven games of the season. Dallas fell to 2-5 overall following Sunday's 25-3 loss to the Washington Football Team, however, and the Cowboys could soon be down to their third-string quarterback.
Starter Dak Prescott was lost for the year when he suffered a gruesome ankle injury during the Oct. 11 game against the New York Giants. Former Cincinnati Bengals starting QB Andy Dalton replaced Prescott but went down to a concussion during Sunday's defeat to Washington. If Dalton isn't cleared for a Sunday night showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles, Ben DiNucci, a seventh-round draft pick, will start under center.
Dallas is potentially a win over Philadelphia (2-4-1) away from sitting atop the division standings, but that apparently isn't stopping the Cowboys from shopping Griffen to a contender that desires a defensive rental.
