Cowboys QB Dak Prescott catching fire before pivotal matchup vs. Eagles

The Cowboys need quarterback Dak Prescott to maintain his hot hand as Dallas prepares for a pivotal road game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Over the past two games, Pro Football Focus gave him a 93.2 grade, the highest among all QBs, per Saad Yousuf of The Athletic. Also, he completed 75.3 percent of his passes and threw for five TDs.

"Coming into the season, there was a lot of chatter about Prescott's need to cut down his interception total," wrote Yousuf. "However, Prescott is at his best when he's operating with confidence, and that's been the biggest difference in the two games since the 49ers debacle."

Prescott threw a career-high 15 interceptions in 2022. Early in the season, it appeared to weigh on his mind since he hesitated to take shots downfield. Through his first five games, he averaged only 6.6 yards per attempt.

However, after an embarrassing 42-10 loss to the 49ers in Week 5, Dallas made notable offensive changes. It started to target WR CeeDee Lamb more and let Prescott take more shots. Since the defeat, he's averaging 9.5 yards per attempt.

"We're starting to look the way we want to on offense," Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said of the team's surge in a Monday news conference. "Frankly, I think it was just getting to concepts that we just haven't done yet and just really cutting Dak loose."

The Cowboys (5-2) need Prescott to continue playing at a high level on Sunday against Philadelphia (7-1),  a matchup that could have NFC East title race implications. As of Wednesday, OddsChecker lists the Eagles as three-point favorites.

Yet Prescott has an 8-3 record against the Eagles, so he might show up and have a strong performance against the divisional rival, which is 26th in the NFL in passing yards allowed (247.5).
