Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys continued their poor start to the 2026 NFL season in Week 5’s edition of “Thursday Night Football, falling to undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels and the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-16 at home. Now, the Cowboys will look to bounce back in Week 6, hitting the road to face Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers on “Sunday Night Football.”

Prescott has helped Dallas produce one of the best offenses in the NFL in the second season under Brian Schottenheimer. But the defense, like in 2025, has been among the worst, allowing 395.4 total yards per game through five weeks under new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, the 2nd-most in the NFL behind the Detroit Lions (404.4).

But as the Cowboys continue to look for answers on defense, hoping to get some players back from injury as well, Prescott will be moving forward without one of his offensive linemen.

Nick Leverett, after a college career with North Carolina Central and Rice, went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft before he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, spending four seasons with the team, including Tom Brady’s final Super Bowl run. After 2023, Leverett spent the next two seasons with the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals before signing with the Cowboys in November of last season.

Leverett joined Dallas’ practice squad initially, signing a reserve/future contract after the 2025 season. He was added to the practice squad once again to begin 2026, but was later promoted to the active roster before Week 1.

But on Monday, the Cowboys decided it was time for a change, waiving Leverett and leaving Prescott without some offensive line depth, for now.

“The Cowboys waived OL Nick Leverett, per the league wire,” Cowboys beat writer Tommy Yarrish wrote on X.

The Cowboys will take on the Packers on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET before facing the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7’s edition of “Monday Night Football.”
