Cowboys QB Dak Prescott says 'dad strength' responsible for breakout season

There’s no question that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was under an immense amount of pressure to perform better than he did a season ago when he threw a career-high 15 interceptions and posted the second-worst passer rating of his career.

Eleven games into 2023, Prescott has more than delivered. He’s on track to potentially reach new career bests in passing yards, touchdowns and passer rating. His Cowboys are 8-3 and trailing the red-hot Philadelphia Eagles by just two games.

“It's the dad strength, that's why I'm playing that way,” Prescott joked with reporters on Monday. "It gives credit to everything around this team — the organization, the coaches, people just handling their business, being prepared. Our process has been amazing throughout this season.”

Prescott is having arguably the best season of his career. He’s completing a career-best 70% of his passes with his lowest interception percentage since his rookie season in 2016 (1.6). His 107.4 passer rating is the highest he’s had in his eight seasons, and well above the league average of 88.9.

His 266 passing yards per game is also the third-highest clip of his career, and he’s on track for his second season of 4,500 passing yards and 35 touchdowns.

Prescott and his girlfriend Sarah Jane Ramos recently announced they were expecting their first child together, although the couple has known about the pregnancy for a while.

Now 30 and eight years into his NFL career, Prescott divulged that he couldn’t fathom balancing football with raising a baby at such a young age. Now, he says, his impending fatherhood has added perspective to not only in his personal life but his football career as well.

“Yeah, you can definitely say [having a baby] would have been harder earlier in my career," Prescott admitted. “It comes with growth, with growing up. It comes with life. Something I'm super excited about, super blessed. I can't imagine, honestly, being in this position, being blessed like this earlier in my career. God's timing is everything.”
