We got the full Joe Milton experience in the Dallas Cowboys' 31-21 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium in the first preseason game for head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
There were some good throws, some bad ones, and a long bomb that was picked off.
But just as Milton looked like he was getting comfortable after leading a 13-play, 83-yard touchdown drive that found tight end Rivaldo Fairweather in the endzone, Joe's day was ended early in the fourth quarter.
A collision with a Rams defender looked like it could have been potentially serious, with Joe seen on the sidelines trying his best to get through the pair. But it's preseason, so no need to push it, and Will Grier entered the game.
And when asked about it post-game, Joe brushed it off.
“Just two players collided into my elbow," Milton said via ESPN's Todd Archer. "I’m pretty fine. Probably just a contusion. I’ll be good.”
"I'll be good'' works in the injury department ... and "he'll be better'' is what is hoped-for otherwise.
Joe would finish his day completing 17 of his 29 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown, and an interception with his trademark arm talent on show.
He started out rather shaky, with blistering passes bouncing off his receiver's hands while others were wide of the target to begin the day with back-to-back three-and-outs.
But Milton settled into the game, and yes, he did have some poor moments where it looked like he was pressing and relying on his throw power to get things done, instead of using timing and anticipation to complete passes. He did find Traeshon Holden for a 35-yard gain with a nice, lofted pass.
He continued that form with good touch on his touchdown throw, and then the injury happened. So, there will be a lot to take out of the loss to the Rams, but perhaps nothing as important as Milton escaping what could have been a nasty injury.
