Cowboys QB Trade Triggers Dak Prescott Warning

The Dallas Cowboys found depth in their quarterback room after executing a trade with the New England Patriots to acquire rookie Joe Milton III in exchange for a fifth-round NFL Draft pick.

Prescott, who is recovering nicely from a severe hamstring injury suffered last season, is still clearly the starter ... but the move for Milton hasn't kept the media quiet.

Multiple television personalities have let Dak hear about it, but now Cowboys' legend Michael Irvin has chimed in.

"Don't give this kid a chance, Dak," Irvin said on his podcast.

"You better stay healthy, stay ready, stay on the football field."

There is no denying Prescott's recent injury history - having missed a game in four of the last five seasons including two season-ending blows - but there is also no guarantee Milton is the immediate backup just yet.

Milton will compete with the Cowboys' Will Grier who returns to Dallas after having being on the practice squad for much of 2024.

Irvin continued his message to Dak: "Now remember, you're making $60 million a year. This kid (Milton) making only $1 million. If you give him a chance on the field, it'll be ugly."

Milton will have something to prove as he's still on a rookie contract, but he can rely on his rocket arm to give him confidence in seeing the field if Prescott were to get hurt.

It is hard to deny the physical gifts Milton possesses, but he's still coming off his rookie season in which he saw action in only one game - a meaningless one at that.

Grier also doesn't have much experience to work with, having last played in a regular season game in 2019.

For Prescott, the pressure continues to mount as he enters his 10th NFL season in 2025.

Not only is he window to win potentially closing, his age and recovery won't be helping his cause in his effort to stay healthy.

His backup quarterback situation isn't helping much of the cause either.
