Cowboys QB Trashed in Shocking Insider Trade Report

The Dallas Cowboys saw both of their backup quarterbacks leave in free agency this offseason, with Cooper Rush singing with the Baltimore Ravens and Trey Lance getting an opportunity with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Before those departures, general manager Jerry Jones agreed to a trade with the New England Patriots to land QB Joe Milton III, the team's potential backup for this season behind Dak Prescott.

Dallas also received a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft (who turned into UCLA DT Jay Toia) in exchange for a fifth rounder (who turned into LSU OG Miles Frazier) sent to New England.

In the time since, reports are coming out that paint a dark picture on Milton's rookie year in Foxboro last season. It also may explain the reasoning for his quick sendoff.

According to Patriots insider Greg Bedard, Milton did not make many friends inside the Patriots building.

"Joe Milton - and this is a direct quote from someone in the organization - is not a good dude," Bedard said on his podcast.

“Knowing your role, playing your role, being part of a harmonious quarterback room — that was going to be an issue. It wasn’t about Drake Maye. It was just about the room.”

Drake Maye, of course, was also a rookie quarterback with New England last season after being the No. 3 overall pick. Maye started in 12 of the 13 games he played last season, while Milton watched from the sidelines.

Milton, apparently, was not fond of New England asserting Maye as their quarterback of the future so quick into their careers. However, Maye deserves it after performing somewhat well last season.

Maye threw for over 2,000 yards and had 15 touchdowns, while Milton was limited to just one game of action ... in the regular season finale.

In his first time speaking on the trade, new Pats head coach Mike Vrabel mentioned the organization "moving forward" with Maye and veteran signee Josh Dobbs, leading to a decrease in reps for Milton in the future.

This explains his playing time. But was the trade done so early in the offseason because of issues Milton issues in the locker room? Or was Maye feeling pressure from Milton after his solid one-game showing in Week 17?

The latter doesn't seem to be the case, despite the rumors that come as a result of the Pats' final game.

New England could have gotten a larger return in his trade had it come later in the offseason, but it seems they were content with giving up on the former Tennessee star.

According to Vrabel, the move was "what's best for the team..."

The talented 6-5 gunslinger now gets a new opportunity in Dallas, where he will be back on the bench behind veteran leader Dak Prescott ... and even has a chance at being the third string behind returner Will Grier.

Only time will tell how Milton performs, and how he reacts to where he may fall in Dallas' QB depth chart.
