Cowboys Sign Packers Ex Cornerback as Free Agent

Another defensive back from the Green Bay Packers is on the move.

Mere hours after Jaire Alexander signed with the Baltimore Ravens, sources confirm cornerback Robert Rochell has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys on a free-agent contract.

Rochell joins the Cowboys after the team suffered a litany of injuries at the position last season. This year, they may continue to face difficulties in that regard.

Trevon Diggs is rehabbing another knee surgery with a hopeful return aimed at mid-season. Third-round pick Shavon Revel Jr. is recovering from an ACL tear, but he should be back on the field during training camp. Josh Butler has also been sidelined this offseason with an injury.

Rochell, however, may have his best shot at making the Cowboys roster as a special teams ace.

The former fourth-round pick in 2021 has seen limited action on defense throughout his four-year career. He started with the Los Angeles Rams where he saw five cornerback starts as a rookie but totaled just 14 tackles on the season.

The next three years he has seen action strictly on special teams. Last year in particular, he played just one snap on defense for the Packers. He appeared in 41% of Green Bay's special teams snaps in 2024.

Rochell will have to make a major impact in Oxnard to be considered for a 53-man spot, but he could be granted enough opportunities on the field to do so amid Dallas' limited availability.

Worth noting, Dallas re-signed another special teamer in longtime Cowboy and emergency DB C.J. Goodwin earlier this offseason.

The Cowboys' front office is leaving no stone unturned in regard to their defensive back depth ahead of training camp.
