Cowboys’ Solomon Thomas Wears New Number After Controversy

In the midst of free agency, the Dallas Cowboys have announced new jersey number assignments for those who joined the team this offseason.

There are 14 new players so far on the roster. After each of them signed their new contracts it was time to allocate numbers they will wear in the 2025 NFL season.

With a few key players also leaving the team in free agency, those jerseys are immediately up for grabs.

Most notably, defensive tackle Solomon Thomas has snagged No. 90 for this season - a number worn for 11 seasons in Dallas by defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.

Thomas also wore No. 90 during his prep days in the DFW at Coppell High School - his first team nicknamed the Cowboys.

It's a full-circle moment for the free-agent signee joining his hometown team.

Lawrence left the Cowboys this free agency in dramatic fashion by signing with the Seattle Seahawks, then getting in a heated exchange online with former teammate Micah Parsons after the departure.

With all that behind them, the Cowboys now turn the page and welcome Thomas to the defensive line with Lawrence's old number.

Now let's hope the defense has no bad blood against the new No. 90.

Thomas joins the Cowboys after three seasons with the New York Jets (where he wore No. 94). He signed a two-year, $6 million contract with Dallas in an underrated move to bolster the interior D-line.

The Cowboys' bringing in Thomas includes more familiar ties as well. The Stanford grad reunites with his defensive line coach from New York in new Cowboys coach Aaron Whitecotton.

Thomas, of course, will play in front of friends and family he grew up with in the Metroplex.

Lucky for them, they'll have a familiar number to look for on the field.

For Cowboys fans, they'll look forward to a new No. 90 rushing the quarterback and hope Thomas can provide as much production and longevity as Lawrence did.
