Micah Parsons has been incredible for the Dallas Cowboys since entering the NFL in 2021, and yet, they're not ready to pay him top dollar.
Parsons, who has 52.5 sacks over the past four seasons, is due for a massive extension this year. Some people, like ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, believe he should sit out until he secures a long-term commitment from Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. Well, that be the route he takes in the coming weeks.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Cowboys' relationship with Parsons has deteriorated to the point where a trade request isn't out of the question.
"The Micah Parsons-Cowboys relationship has deteriorated to the point where the star pass rusher is considering drastic measures which could include a trade request or even a declaration that he is severing his relationship with the team," Russini said. "The two sides remain far apart heading into the second week of training camp, and are not currently negotiating."
Russini isn't the only reporter who has hinted at a stand-off between Parsons and the Cowboys.
"The two sides have gone backwards, not forwards," ESPN's Adam Schefter said earlier this week. "I don’t think they’re speaking very much these days, if at all. This negotiation, when it was a negotiation, has gone sideways. It’s not a negotiation right now. There’s really no conversation about getting a deal done
Even if Parsons requests a trade, the Cowboys wouldn't have to grant his wish, though it would make it seem like their front office botched this negotiation.
Besides, the Cowboys have proven in the past that they usually keep their homegrown talent. They're not far removed from signing both Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to massive deals.
Will the Cowboys cave and give Parsons $40 million per year? If not, they might be heading for a breakup.
