Cowboys, TE Dalton Schultz not expected to reach contract agreement by Friday deadline

While he did attend mandatory minicamp one month ago, it was later reported that tight end Dalton Schultz wasn't close to agreement on a contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys. On Monday, it seemed like the situation had potentially gotten worse, as it was reported that the two sides hadn't talked " in weeks" about a new deal.

With approximately 48 hours to go before a crucial deadline, it certainly looks like Schultz and the Cowboys are still not on the same page.

Dallas placed the franchise tag on 26-year-old in March, and he elected to skip part of the team's voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) afterwards.

Schultz ended the 2021 season tied with now-Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper for the team lead in touchdown receptions (eight) and was one catch behind CeeDee Lamb for the team lead in receptions (78). He also tied Cooper for second in targets (104) and third in receiving yards (808).

Schultz turned 26 on Monday and is entering his fifth NFL season.
