Cowboys Twitter account seems to place blame for loss on Dak Prescott's shoulders

The Dallas Cowboys official Twitter account wasn't shy in placing the blame for Sunday night's playoff loss squarely on the shoulders of Dak Prescott.

As noted by many social media users, it's unusual for a team's official account to single out one player in a loss like Dallas seemed to be doing.

After dominating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defense in the NFC divisional round by going 25-for-33 for 305 passing yards, a season-high four touchdown passes and zero interceptions -- along with seven carries for 24 yards and a score -- Prescott struggled against the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday's loss. The two-time Pro Bowler finished 23-for-37 for 206 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions and finished with a 63.6 quarterback rating (his worst since Week 1).

This is the second straight year that the Cowboys season has come to an end at the hands of the 49ers in the playoffs. San Francisco defeated Dallas at AT&T Stadium in January 2022 during the wild-card game.

Since Prescott took over as the team's starting quarterback during his 2016 rookie season, the Cowboys have made the postseason four times, but failed to make it past the divisional round. The run of playoff shortcomings in Dallas didn't start with Prescott though, as the franchise hasn't been past the divisional round since they won their last Super Bowl in January 1996.
