Cowboys Urged To Draft Unknown 'Fumble-Free' RB
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

We can say with some certainty that the Dallas Cowboys will be drafting a running back in the upcoming NFL Draft, it is just a matter of where.

There was initially a thought that the Cowboys would look to take Ashton Jeanty at No. 12, but it is highly unlikely he will be available when Dallas picks. Plus, given the deep running back class, the Cowboys can still get great value in the later rounds.

Players like Omarion Hampton, Kaleb Johnson, TreVeyon Henderson, and Dylan Sampson are some of the names the Cowboys could consider, but a back available later might interest Dallas.

For NFL Network's Charles Davis, Rutgers back Kyle Monangai is the guy Dallas should be drafting.

"On Day 3, there's a kid I love out at Rutgers named Kyle Monangai," Davis said on Path To The Draft. "When you watch him run, Monangia is a 4.6 runner, but when he gets downfield, you got a lot of thinking to do if you're a defender about whether you want to take him on. Back-to-back 1,200-yard seasons, over five yards per carry, put it in the endzone 21 times over those two seasons, and in four seasons as a ball carrier, you know how many fumbles he had? Zero. People are going to scatter when they have to deal with this young man, hand him the ball, and get out of the way."

Hmm, color us intrigued.

Davis outlines exactly why the Cowboys should seriously consider the 5-9, 210-pound Monangai. ... even as he is a relative unknown.

The zero fumbles will surely pique the interest of head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Not known for his ability to be a three-down back, which could hurt his chances in Dallas, but Monangai has all the traits that the Cowboys are looking for, except for being a receiving threat (most recpetions in a season is 14 last year).

In a deep running back class, the Cowboys could get some serious value in the later rounds, and while Monangai isn't a household name, if he gets drafted to Dallas, he might just become one.
