The Dallas Cowboys' running back room has been hit by the injury bug in Oxnard, with Miles Sanders and then rookie Jaydon Blue going down, with the pair missing the 31-21 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the preseason opener.
Phil Mafah, Deuce Vaughn, and Malik Davis all got carries in the loss, with many wanting to see Blue strut his stuff after an impressive training camp stretch, but with Dallas playing the cautious game, it wasn't known when we would see the former Texan Longhorn in action.
But it appears that we might see Blue and Sanders sooner than we thought if what head coach Brian Schottenheimer said is anything to go by.
“I think they're both going to start doing something this week,” Schottenheimer said. “I think both those guys, we should see some significant progress with them this week, and we'll see, but hopefully they can both play in the game.”
So that is a good update, and with two padded practices lined up this week, we would imagine that Blue and Sanders would need to participate in them to have any chance at getting snaps against the Baltimore Ravens at AT&T Stadium.
Of course, the Cowboys won't be pushing the envelope here either, given it is only preseason, but there is no denying that the coaching staff has to see what the pair can do as part of this scheme before the regular season starts.
Will that be against Baltimore? Who knows, but Schottenheimer isn't ruling it out as a possibility.
