The Dallas Cowboys found an explosive new target for Dak Prescott in George Pickens.
Last week, the Cowboys acquired Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers for two future draft picks. On Wednesday, Prescott publicly discussed the trade for the first time.
During a local radio interview on The Ticket, Prescott said he's spoken to Pickens since the deal and is eager to play with the wide receiver.
"We've connected, and I'm excited," Prescott said. "You turn on the tape, and you see a guy that can catch the football. You put the football anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands. More than a 50/50 catcher, he thinks it's his ball when it's in the air. I'm excited for him."
Jalen Tolbert finished second to CeeDee Lamb on the team with 610 receiving yards last season, and Brandin Cooks returned to the New Orleans Saints this offseason. Prescott acknowledged that Dallas could use another pass-catching playmaker to take some defensive attention away from Lamb.
"I know that we need some help in that position," Prescott said. "I know CeeDee needs some help, and I think when you have a guy like that, I heard George say it, it's hard to double-team two guys."
Prescott also cited Jalen Tolbert, Jonathan Mingo, and tight end Jake Ferguson when saying the Cowboys are "putting together a nice group of weapons."
Pickens provides a considerable upgrade to the Cowboys' receiving room after tallying 2,877 yards in three seasons with the Steelers. The former second-round pick has averaged 16.3 yards per catch in 48 career games.
Lamb has exceeded 100 receptions in three straight seasons. Pickens, a big-play vertical threat, feels he'll make a great complement to the four-time Pro Bowler.
"It excites me a lot, because in the game of football, we can work off each other," Pickens said last week. "There's no, 'Oh he gets the ball, I get the ball,' we're working off each other. That's why I always come back to building a winning culture, and that's kind of what we've been talking about in Dallas."
