Dak Prescott, Cowboys Receive Good News on Friday

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will need all of his weapons available in Sunday’s do-or-die game against the Minnesota Vikings , including star tight end Jake Ferguson. The Cowboys still have a faint chance to secure a playoff berth, but they will need to win all four of their remaining games to give themselves a shot at doing so.

However, Ferguson, who has registered 75 catches for 554 yards and seven touchdowns this season, is currently nursing a calf injury. This put his status for the game against Minnesota in doubt. The good news, however, is that Prescott and the Cowboys got a positive update in that regard on Friday.

Ferguson was unable to practice in full throughout the week due to a calf injury. He was limited in Wednesday’s practice before logging a DNP (did not practice) on Thursday. The silver lining, though, is that the Pro Bowl TE was able to return to practice on Friday, albeit in a limited capacity.

According to the Cowboys’ Friday injury report, Ferguson is officially questionable to play on Sunday against the Vikings. This would potentially be his first missed game of the season, which would serve as a considerable blow for Dallas’ Prescott-led offense.

Despite the questionable tag, however, the Cowboys expect Ferguson to suit up on Sunday. Dallas Executive Vice President Stephen Jones spoke to reporters on Friday and revealed that Ferguson is trending in the right direction.

"I think we're gonna be good,” Jones declared, via Cowboys reporter Jon Machota of The Athletic. “He had a good day today, which is what we were looking for. Barring a setback ... the expectation is for him to go (Sunday night)."

Ferguson has been one of Prescott’s top targets this season, and his availability against the Vikings will be pivotal to Dallas’ quest to keep its playoff dreams alive.

It is worth noting that, according to the NFL’s playoff probability model, the Cowboys enter Week 15 with just an 11% chance of securing a playoff berth. These odds will increase to 16% if they beat Minnesota, but a loss will drop their chances to just 2%.

The Cowboys host the Vikings at home on Sunday, with kickoff from AT&T Stadium scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.
