Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys suffered a tough loss on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. They entered the game after securing three straight wins, but all that momentum went out the window after they fell to the Lions, 44-30.
Prescott did what he could for Dallas in this one, finishing with 31-of-47 passes for 376 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback also recorded three carries for 14 rushing yards. Prescott’s performance was not enough to lead the Cowboys to what would have been their fourth consecutive victory. They fell to 6-6-1 after the loss.
Prescott is now in his 10th season with the Cowboys. In 2024, the former Rookie of the Year signed a four-year, $240 million contract extension with the team, which will keep him in Dallas through 2028.
Despite the loss, Prescott was able to make history on Thursday night. He came into the game with the all-time record for most passing yards in franchise history with 34,698. The former Mississippi State Bulldogs star added 376 more to his tally, which made him the first player in Cowboys history to surpass 35,000 passing yards.
Despite the loss, Dak Prescott becomes the first Dallas Cowboys player to reach 35,000 pass yards.

What’s even more impressive about Prescott’s all-time record is the fact that he did this in 135 games. Tony Romo is second in career passing yards with 34,183, while Troy Aikman is third with 32,942. The two iconic quarterbacks reached these marks in 156 and 165 games, respectively.
While this is yet another impressive milestone for Prescott, it does little to take away from Thursday’s tough loss. According to NFL.com, the loss to the Lions saw the Cowboys’ playoff chances drop to just 6%. They will now need to win their last four regular-season games, but even that might not be enough to guarantee a postseason berth.
Prescott and Co. now get nine full days off before their next game. They will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 14, to face the Minnesota Vikings. That will be a home matchup for the Cowboys, with kickoff from AT&T Stadium scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.
